Welcome to the 2016 Mini Grand Prix! Many of you may remember the pedal car races arranged by the Rotary Club in the late 1990’s – perhaps you took part in them. They continued for some years, until in 2003 the Rotary Club and Uckfield Community Technology College came together to run the first GP involving battery cars. The 2003 event involved three primary schools, Holy Cross, Manor and Little Horsted, with Holy Cross coming out on top. Since then the event has grown steadily, until this year we will have some 20 cars and up to 200 youngsters competing in over 4 hours of hectic racing. It’s not only the racing on the day that benefits the youngsters, but also the preparation they have to put in, and the learning it promotes.
We are very grateful to the organising committee, who put in a huge amount of work that is never seen. Our thanks also go to the sponsors listed elsewhere, without whose support the event would not be what it is today.
Have a great day’s racing!
President, Rotary Club of Uckfield
